What are cookies 

HTTP cookies are essential to the modern Internet but a vulnerability to your privacy. As a necessary part of web browsing, HTTP cookies help web developers give you more personal, convenient website visits. Cookies let websites remember you, your website logins, shopping carts, and more. But they can also be a treasure trove of private info for criminals to spy on.

Managing cookies on Google Chrome

Steps to delete cookie:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.

  2. At the top right, click More More and then Settings.

  1. Under "Privacy and security," click Cookies and other site data.


  1. Click See all cookies and site data.

  1. When you find a site that you wish to delete a cookie from press the Remove icon on the right side.



Steps to change your cookie settings

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.

  2. At the top right, click More More  Settings.

  1. Under "Privacy and security," click Cookies and other site data.

  1. Select an option:

    • “Allow all cookies”

    • "Block all cookies (not recommended)”.

    • "Block third-party cookies in Incognito"

    • "Block third-party cookies." 

Important: If you block third-party cookies, all cookies and site data from other sites will be blocked, even if the site is allowed on your exceptions list.

Practical exercise: 
please try to view, modify and delete the cookies and navigation history in the browser. You will be asked about it during the assessment later at the end of this module.

Web browsing history

Browsing history is a list of recently visited websites. The concern here is about privacy. If you do not delete your browsing history, then anyone with access to the system may be able to see what sites you visited. You may not want others to have access to this information, especially if one of the sites visited was related to some health issue you may be experiencing.

Deleting browsing history on Google Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.

  2. At the top right, click More More and then Settings

  1. Under "Privacy and security," click Clear browsing data and other site data.

  1. From the drop-down menu, select how much history you want to delete, make sure that Browsing history is checked. Click Clear data.
